Memorial Day Weekend

Last weekend, Memorial Day weekend, our house was invaded by gremlins (see above)! Scott, Jamie, Izze, and Mickey arrived at bedtime on Friday night and the festivities commenced. Saturday at 2:30 a.m. Scott and Jamie headed south to the Feather River near Yuba City for a morning of guided fishing. Jamie brought home a keeper that would end up on the bar-b-que on Sunday. Ross headed out to ski Spanish Peak by 7am and skied freshies (on May 5/29!!!). The girls and I had the morning and afternoon to play. We at bagels at Pete's, shopped the Farmer's Market, played at Caper Acres, came home for crafts and snacks, went back out to the Chico Nature Center (petted the bunny:), threw sticks in the creek, and came home for more snacks and crafts.

At Caper Acres the slides and the big block of cheese were the favorites.

In one of our rounds of crafts, the girls decorated paper and snap bracelets with weebles (remember these from elementary school magazine drives).

Eventually, the weebles migrated to...

Auntie.

The weather Sunday was dry (hooray) and cool, but it worked out perfectly. Brandy, Anthony, Gavin and Lexi came up from Sacramento. Mickey and Gavin were pretty wild together. We walked over to Hooker Oak park for pre-lunch play time. Back at home Scott grilled, everyone ate well, and then various games involving balls-bats-running-tumbling-tickling-and the tight rope ensued. Ross impressed everyone by hitting wiffle balls WHILE balancing on his tightrope!! Everyone had fun and no one sustained any serious injuries:)

Mickey was really interested in Katya's keyboard, she played a few rounds of Greensleeves and sang the "A,B,C..." song 42 times (just one more, just one more...). Izze played a few songs. It was hilarious!

Whiskeytown and Crystal Creek Falls

Last weekend we hiked out to Whiskey Town Fall. It was a pretty hike, wild flowers and dog wood trees were in bloom.

Getting closer to the falls...

Arrived at the falls. The water was icy cold. We had a picnic lunch and then hiked back to the car, drove a short distance down the road, and then took a short hike to check out Crystal Creek Falls. We were rewarded by more great views and clear-cold water.

Girls on the Run

This spring, Katya has been participating in Girls on the Run; a running/character development group for girls grade 3-8. The culmination of the season was the Diva Dash 5k this morning. Katya and Ross ran together. Congratulations on your first 5k Katya!

Piano Recital

Katya had her first piano recital the Friday before last. She played the "Aardvark Boogie" and "Pirates of the North Sea." She play well, and hopefully it is the first of many to come.
